While its origin might be the accidental drop of chocolate chunks that never melted in a plain cookie dough, the worldwide success of chocolate cookie is not due to chance. This delicious biscuit, created in the 1930’s in the United States, has gained a reputation of being a profit earner for cafés and coffee shops, and can be found nowadays everywhere. The nut from the coconut palm tree, the coconut is native to more than 80 tropical and sub-tropical countries such as Indonesia, India and Thailand, where it is considered indispensable. In fact, in several different languages the name for the coconut palm means that all parts of the tree are useful in some way.

An extremely versatile flavour, its intense, sweet flavour goes well with sweet, bitter and salty flavours. As well as having many culinary uses, coconut is used in beauty products because coconut oil is an excellent moisturiser.

Enjoy a taste of the tropics by adding MONIN Coconut syrup to cocktails, coffees, smoothies and fruit punches and drift away to the shade of a coconut palm…

Colour
Cloudy white.

Tasting notes
Very intense, concentrate and long-lasting taste of grated coconut which carries you away to tropics, under coconut palms…Aftertaste a bit caramelized.

The tart flavour of cranberry is the base for many classic cocktails such as the ‘Cosmopolitan’ and the ‘Americano’.

The fruit of a low shrub or trailing vine, the cranberry favours acidic, boggy soil and cooler climates. Native Americans were the first to eat cranberries, so-called because the flower resembles the neck, head and bill of a crane. The USA and Canada are now the main cranberry producers.

Famed for their acidic, sweet flavour and pretty colour, cranberries are harvested in late Autumn. They have become a festive flavour associated with Thanksgiving and Christmas , when cranberry sauce is traditionally eaten as an accompaniment to roast turkey. Around 95% of cranberries are made into juice, sauce or sweetened dried cranberries.

MONIN Cranberry syrup delivers the vibrant red of the berry and the perfect balance of tart and sweet for creating vibrant, taste bud-tingling cocktails, sodas, teas and martinis

One of the best-selling flavours in Germany because of the popularity of the Hugo cocktail, MONIN Elder flower Syrup delivers the fragrant aroma and tart, juicy flavour of these creamy-white flowers.

Often consumed as a cordial or a liqueur, both are crafted from the flowers of the Elder or Elderberry tree, commonly found in the English countryside. The English saying goes that summer is not here until the Elder is fully in flower and that it is at an end when the berries are ripe.

Simply add MONIN Elder flower to champagne, mix in a white spirit based cocktail or with fruit juices for aromatic, summery refreshers.

Colour
Light gold.

Tasting notes
Strong floral smell with honey notes; distinctive, tart and juicy taste.

Grenadine is by far the most common and versatile sweetener and flavouring in classic bar mixology. As hard as it is to believe, it has nothing similar with pomegranate syrup. Many cocktails contain Grenadine. It imparts a nice red colour and sweet, slightly tart taste that is very popular by children and adults. MONIN Grenadine syrup presents a flavour of red berries with a touch of vanilla and a bright red colour to enhance non alcoholic beverages, cocktails and even desserts, marinades, and several other recipes.

Colour
Brilliant red with orangey glints.

Tasting notes
Slightly acidic taste, subtle combination between the roundness of vanilla and the tartness of red berries.

Beverage Innovation Directors tips
From a Shirley Temple to Tequila Sunrise, a lot of classics use grenadine syrup for the deep red colour it gives. I like to use it in flavoured sodas in complement to a fruit flavour as for example MONIN Passion Fruit syrup. This sweet gives a fresh feeling.

Alcoholic cocktails

Developed as one of the ‘virgin flavour’ range, MONIN Irish syrup has a flavour profile which is similar to Irish cream, a cream liqueur based on whiskey, cream and coffee, for use in non-alcoholic after-dinner drinks.

Irish coffee is a popular after-dinner drink consisting of hot coffee, sugar and whisky topped with thick cream, through which the coffee is drunk.

The story goes that the first Irish coffee was created by Joe Sheridan, head chef at Foynes, County Limerick. He created coffee for a group of American tourists who had just arrived in Ireland on a miserable winter night and added the whiskey to warm them up. When they enquired what it was, Joe Sheridan said it was ‘Irish coffee’.

Perfect for creating non-alcoholic Irish coffees, speciality coffees, dessert cocktails and smoothies, MONIN Irish syrup will add the luck of Irish to your drinks!.

Colour
Brown with amber glints

Tasting notes
Nose: Buttery with hints of roasted coffee

Attack: Creamy with strong roasted coffee

Beverage Innovation Directors tips
With its subtle combination of flavours, MONIN Irish syrup allows you to create tons of coffee based recipes or even dairy preparations. I like to mix it with fresh cream in a canister, in order to garnish an espresso.
